Rome

The city that invented the world most of us still live in.

Seven stops. Seven episodes. Two thousand years of architecture and history, ending at the one hill high enough to see all of it at once.

We’ve spent more time in Rome than any other city in the Place of the Day catalog — and we could spend more. Every episode in this series pairs with a companion cocktail and mocktail. The full seven-stop walking tour PDF is available free when the series wraps.

Plan Your Visit

Best time of year: October or April. July and August are survivable but crowded and hot. November is underrated — quiet, dramatic, and the museums are yours.

How many days: Allow three to four days to do the series properly. Two to three stops per day, with time to sit and eat and not rush.

Don’t miss: Book the Borghese Gallery before you leave home. It sells out. galleriaborghese.it

Getting around: Walk between most stops. Taxi or bus to the Borghese Gallery and Gianicolo. The Capitoline Hill overlook of the Forum is a five-minute walk from the Forum entrance.
