Walking the Hard Places

Welcome to Walking the Hard Places

Some places carry weight that no photograph fully captures and no guidebook adequately prepares you for.

Walking the Hard Places is a multi-format series that takes us to the sites around the world where emotional weight, uncomfortable history, and true human tragedy intersect. Not to sensationalize them. Not to check them off a list. But to feel that weight honestly — to stand in those places as travelers and as human beings, and let them mean something.

Because they deserve that. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when it’s uncomfortable.

These are the places where history didn’t just happen — it changed everything that came after it. The beaches where young men waded into the unknown. The camps where humanity failed itself on an industrial scale. The quiet American plains where entire peoples were erased and the ground still holds the memory. Places close to home and places across the ocean, all connected by the same question: what do we do with the places where we were worst?

We walk them. We write about them. We keep the stories alive.

Join us as we explore these hard places, experience the history firsthand, and honor the reason they matter by refusing to look away.

From Normandy to Dachau, Amache to Sand Creek and beyond — Walks Your Way will be there to help you navigate the hard places.

Enjoy the journey.
